The CEBPA gene provides instructions to make a protein called CCAAT-enhancer-binding protein alpha. This protein is a transcription factor, meaning it binds to specific regions of DNA and helps control the activity (expression) of certain genes.

Mutations in the CEBPA gene have been associated with a type of blood cancer called acute myeloid leukemia (AML). These mutations can lead to abnormal proliferation of normal blood cells and disruption of bone marrow function.
